![]() ![]() The suggestion that development in the Americas was driven by Africans is a diffusionist theory, which draws from a larger hyper-diffusionist theory that similar diffusions happened across the entire globe, also driven by Africans. Though the term ‘diffusionist theory’ may be unfamiliar to some, the phenomenon should be familiar to many people currently aware of Eurocentric and White Supremacist narratives that state that the cultural and technological development of the Americas and Africa were driven by European contact. ![]() The latter culture abandons many of their traditions and technology–if they had either to speak of before the contact–in favor of the former, which is viewed as the superior of the two by the scholars presenting the theory. In archaeology, this is known as a diffusionist theory–it suggests that, where two cultures exhibit key similarities (language, technology, religion, social stratification, etc.), a one-way transfer of culture transpired in which one community assimilated to the culture of another. There is a claim that African explorers created the pre-Colombian complex societies of the Americas. ![]()
